Bed maker recalls plug for heated blanket over safety risk

Bed manufacturer Silentnight has issued a product recall on a Smart Wi-Fi Plug over safety concerns.

In a notice by the Office for Product Safety and Standards, the product recall is for the white Silentnight Smart Wi-Fi Plug that fits the Silentnight heated blanket.

The product, which originates in China, includes the A6 model and was sold between 2017 to 2022. This item has been sold individually, in packs of 4, 6 & 8 and as part of bundle with a Silentnight Electric Blanket.

A statement said: “The product presents a serious risk of electric shock because mains plug does meet the dimensional requirements of BS 1363. The socket shutters can get stuck in an open position, allowing a consumer to access the live parts and receive an electric shock.

“There is also insufficient creepage and clearance distance between the mains potential input circuits and low voltage output circuits.

“The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 or the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994.

“The product has been recalled from end users by Comfy Quilts. We recommend that you stop using this product immediately and contact recall@silentnight-bedding.co.uk / 0330 107 1052 for next steps.”
