Carpet retailer gets green light for new Pembrokeshire store

Carpet and flooring retailer Tapi Carpets & Floors has revealed plans to open a new store in Haverfordwest.

According to a planning application submitted to Pembrokeshire County Council, London-based Threadneedle Pensions Limited sought permission for a refurbishment of Unit C1, a former Carpetright store, at Springfield Retail Park on Fishguard Road.

A supporting statement through agent Quod said: “Carpetright went into administration in July 2024, resulting in the closure of 200 stores nationwide, including Unit C1. The unit has therefore been vacant since November 2024. The enclosed application looks to bring forward modest refurbishment works to enable the retail unit to be re-occupied by Tapi Carpets & Floors (Tapi), who are looking to improve their customer offer in the Haverfordwest area.

“The considered refurbishment works proposed will improve the site in line with the requirements of the incoming furniture retailer and bring a prominent retail unit back into beneficial use.

“The proposed works will allow the building to be refurbished to a high standard, which has been identified by Tapi as an excellent location and opportunity to expand their presence in southwest Wales.

“Refurbishment of the unit will ensure it better aligns with their modern trading format to secure its long-term occupation.”

Tapi acquired Carpetright in July 2024, and now operates over 170 stores nationwide, including 54 former Carpetright locations.

The application has been conditionally approved.
