Celebrating 60 Years

Tim Morgan, Director at Hafren Furnishers, reflects on the past 60 years as the company continues the celebrations of its historic anniversary milestone.

Back in July 2025, Welsh independent furniture retailer Hafren Furnishers reached a significant moment in its long history.

Established back in 1965 by Mike Morgan, or better known as ‘Mike the Milk’ after offering small items of furniture direct from his milk float, the business has continued to evolve over the last six decades.

Now run by son Tim, Hafren Furnishers still trades from its original Llanidloes site as its flagship store, as well as its other location in Aberystwyth, which opened three years ago. Reflecting on its 60th anniversary milestone, Tim shared: “July 2025 officially marked the anniversary whilst exhibiting at the Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells. We launched a 60th anniversary sale on the trade stand, which has continued instore and online throughout the year – offering discounts and savings across all products.

“We’ve had a great response and it has been enjoyable reminiscing over the years with new and returning customers. We’ve also had the pleasure of shooting the Hafren Furnishers ’60 year journey’ for Heno S4C, which was great fun.”

Tim added that Hafren’s philosophy remains unchanged from 60 years ago: “offer customers leading furniture brands at the best possible prices with exceptional service and free delivery across England and Wales”. This has earnt Hafren an enviable reputation amongst its loyal customer base and within the furniture industry itself.

“It’s been a wonderful journey so far,” Tim continued. “Acquiring the current Llanidloes Border Showroom site, continually investing and expanding the business to move with current trends – now trading in Llanidloes within a 70,000sqft showroom, have been particular highlights over the years.

“Furthermore, sourcing a second site for a showroom in Aberystwyth and opening in Autumn 2023 was another special moment in our history.

“Despite challenging times for all retail sectors, with rising costs and economic change, our loyal customer base, corporate reputation and vast choice of furniture has enabled us to remain competitive.”

Looking ahead, Hafren will continue to do what it does best, put the customer first and to build its high reputation even further. “We will continue to offer our customers the choice of quality furniture according to their requirements and budget.

“At the moment, we’re seeing natural and recyclable materials, eco conscious and sustainability become popular choices amongst our customers, while vintage vibes with a modern twist are also performing well.

“We’re very proud of our achievement. Mike Morgan, the founder who is sadly no longer with us, would be delighted. Success has stemmed from our knowledgeable and experienced staff, listening to our customers, offering them a positive customer experience and staying focused on what we do best. Here’s to another 60 years!”
