Family business sees store destroyed following fire

Family run furniture business Suite Dreams of Skegness has suffered a fire that has destroyed its store.

Situated on Old Wainfleet Road in Skegness, the blaze started at a nearby car wash and spread to the furniture store. The incident took place on Monday 29 December 2025.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue at attended the scene to extinguish the fire affecting at least three properties.

No injuries were reported with the fire service using six appliances to tackle the blaze. This was later scaled down to two appliances and an aerial ladder platform after crews took the situation under control.

Following the aftermath of the fire, a statement from Suite Dreams of Skegness said: “As many of you are aware, we are living through a nightmare. Our family business, Suite Dreams, was destroyed.

“First, we want to address the speculation we’ve seen online. To be clear: we are tenants of this building, not owners. There were no “planning issues,” and the “insurance job” accusations are as baseless as they are hurtful.

“The fire was a direct result of the neighbouring car wash using a metal bin for warmth. We had previously advised them that if they must use it, it had to be kept in the middle of their lot, far away from the building. However, knowing we were closed for Christmas and not there to complain, they moved the bin inside their back room.

“We only happened to be at the shop by chance to pick something up. Upon arrival, we noticed a considerable amount of smoke coming from the back room in their side and found them unbelievably attempting to dab out the fire with sponges, but with the chemicals stored in that room, the fire had already taken hold of the roof. Within hours, 24 years of our hard work was gone.

“While we felt it necessary to set the record straight, we want the focus of this post to be on what truly matters: You.

“For 24 years, Suite Dreams has been our family’s life’s work. To stand by and watch what we built from the ground up be wiped out through no fault of our own is heartbreaking. But as we look back, we realise that the building was just walls—the business was the people.

“To our loyal customers: Thank you for choosing us to help make your houses feel like homes. Many of you have been with us since the very beginning. Your reviews, your recommendations, and your repeat visits allowed us to grow and serve Skegness with pride for over two decades. You aren’t just customers; you are the reason we loved what we did. You allowed us to provide a service to this town that we have been truly, deeply proud of.

“To our friends and the local community: Your messages, calls, and support during this devastating time have been a lifeline. This has meant more to us than you will ever know.

“To everyone leaving messages of support: We also want to add that we have seen the many lovely comments you have left across posts. Your kindness is deeply appreciated and is giving our family a great deal of strength during this incredibly difficult time.

“To Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue: Thank you for your swift, professional response and for working so hard to bring a horrific situation under control. Your work is to be admired.

“We are currently processing the magnitude of this loss. We ask for your patience and kindness as we navigate the coming days. Thank you for 24 wonderful years.”

Since the fire, efforts from the local public have offered support, including the launch of a GoFundMe page, with the business adding: “We would like to thank everyone for the incredible outpouring of kind messages and offers of support. While we cannot physically reply to every single person right now, we want you to know that we have read every one.

“It has been truly humbling and, in the best way possible, overwhelming to see how much our small local family business meant to not just us, but all of you too.

“We have seen several comments mentioning ‘GoFundMe’ pages, and one has recently been set up. While we are deeply moved by the kindness and thoughtfulness behind this gesture, we want to clarify that we cannot accept donations.

“We have insurance in place to navigate the rebuilding process, and accepting financial gifts is not something we would ever feel comfortable doing, let alone during a cost-of-living crisis and the expensive period between Christmas and New Year.

“Your words of support are more than enough. They are our lifeline right now. We will share a further update regarding the business soon, but we felt it was important to address this promptly.”
