Furniture maker posts loss as sales dip

Kitchens, bedrooms and bathroom furniture manufacturer JT Ellis has reported a decline in sales as well as a loss.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 30 September 2024, total sales fell 16.9% to £25m from £30.1m in 2023 – although this was over an extended 15-month comparative period.

Pre-tax losses resulted at £1.6m, down from a profit of £285,000 recorded in the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said gross margin decreased to 22% from 27% following some “stabilisation” in input prices during the period.

“The company maintained a tight control over overheads, however they have increased in the year to 24% of turnover (15 months to 30 September 2023 – 21%),” the business added.
