Homeware sales showed small growth on the high street.
According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales fell -0.10% for the week ending 17 May 2026.
Homewares total LFLs edged up by +0.43% (adjusted), from a negative base of -2.62% for the same week last year.
Store homewares sales grew by +1.70% this week, compared a fall of -2.94% for the same week last year. Non-store homewares sales increased by +5.35% this week, compared to -5.67% for the same week last year.
Total store LFL sales fell by -0.59% this week, compared to a negative base of -0.97% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales increased by +6.73% this week, compared to a negative base of -3.95% for the same week last year.
Commenting on the results, BDO said: “The fall in total like-for-like (LFL) sales was driven by weak in-store fashion sales.
“The UK experienced cool, unsettled weather this week with temperatures often below or near seasonal averages with thundery showers at times.”
Springboard data showed overall footfall fell by -3.4% this week, driven by high street footfall (-6.3%) and shopping centre footfall (-1.4%), whereas retail parks footfall increased by +0.7%.
