Homeware high street sales fall for third time in March

Homeware sales fell on the high street for a third straight week.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales fell -3.04% for the week ending 22 March 2026.

Homewares total LFLs were down by -3.63% (after adjustments) from a positive base of +9.18% for the same week last year.

Store homewares sales increased by +3.40% from a positive base of +4.81% for the same week last year. Non-store homewares sales grew by +2.45% this week from a positive base of +3.55% last year.

Total store LFL sales slipped by -0.35% from a positive base of +5.74% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales fell by -5.61% this week, from a very strong base of +16.89% for the same week last year.

Commenting on the results, BDO said: “Store sales edged down this week, but it was weak online retail sales and lifestyle sales that drove down total LFL sales this week.

“Across the UK, the weather shifted from an unsettled start to brighter and slightly milder conditions later in the week.”

Springboard figures revealed overall footfall rose by +3.3% this week, with positive footfall across all channels – high streets (+4.2%), retail parks (+3.6%), and shopping centres (+1.3%).
