Homeware high street sales growth again in May

Homeware sales remained positive on the high street.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 5.19% for the week ending 24 May 2026.

Homewares total LFLs increased by +6.45% this week, from a negative base of -1.86% for the same week last year.

Store homewares sales grew by +3.30% this week, compared to +5.36% for the same week last year. Non-store homewares sales increased by strong +25.80% this week, compared to -7.27% for the same week last year.

Total store LFL sales rose by +5.36% this week, compared to a negative base of -0.10% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales increased by +11.54% this week, compared to a positive base of +2.70% for the same week last year.

Commenting on the results, BDO said: “This week saw increases in in-store and non-store sales and increases across all retail catergories (Lifestyle, Fashion, and Homewares).

“The week saw a transition from cool spring conditions to an early season heatwave with a high of over 34 degrees recorded.”

Springboard data showed overall footfall diped by -0.3% this week, driven by shopping centre footfall (-1.2%) and high street footfall (-0.6%), whereas retail parks footfall increased by +1.3%.
