Homeware sales rose on the high street for a ninth positive result in the past ten weeks.
According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose 3.76% for the week ending 11 January 2026.
Homewares total LFLs jumped by +12.83% from a base of +6.13% for the same week last week, denoting the category’s ninth positive result in the past ten weeks.
Store homewares sales climbed by +7.05% from a base of -2.91%, signifying the category’s fourth straight positive week, while non-store sales for homewares continued a positive trend, rising by +2.80% from a base of +16.50%.
Total store LFL sales increased by +1.90% but from a negative base of -2.88% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales went up by +4.83% from a base of +21.33% for the same week last year.
Commenting on the results, BDO said: “In the first full tracking week of 2026, fashion and homewares returned positive outcomes both in-store and online, boosting total LFL sales.
“The UK experienced freezing weather with temperatures dropping as low as around -10 °C, resulting in widespread snow, ice and severe gusts caused by Storm Goretti.
“The weather in the UK during the same period last year was similar, featuring cold spells and sub-zero temperatures, widespread snow and frost.”
Overall footfall slipped by -3.7% as results declined across all tracked categories. High street footfall fell by -5.2%, while shopping centres and retail parks results declined by -2.8% and -1.6% respectively.
