Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has announced the opening of its new store in Chester.
Officially opening on 9 October 2025, the new store is based in Greyhound Retail Park, Chester, and was marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Sherin Akhta, as well as 35 co-workers from the store.
The doors were then opened for the first customers to experience this brand-new format, with a compact layout that’s easy to navigate and designed for everyday convenience.
IKEA Chester is the third of three new-format small stores to open this year, following the opening of IKEA Harlow in July and the opening of IKEA Norwich in August.
The new retail park locations are designed to offer a simpler, faster shopping experience for customers, where they can explore inspiring roomsets, shop second-hand finds, and take home a wide range of home furnishings and small furniture items the same day. Dedicated planning services for kitchens and bedrooms are also available, supported by a team of knowledgeable co-workers ready to help customers design their dream spaces.
Andy MacGregor, Manager for IKEA Chester, said: “It’s been fantastic to open our doors and welcome the first customers into our new small store in Chester today, and we’re grateful for such a warm reception. We’re so proud to be part of the Chester community and hope everyone feels at home in our new store, whether they’re dropping in to browse, shop, plan their dream spaces, or tuck into our signature food.”
Sam Dixon, Member of Parliament for Chester North and Neston, said: “Chester is proud to be the newest home for IKEA. It is fantastic news for our city and the wider region, boosting our local economy, attracting visitors, and helping to secure Chester’s standing as a dynamic centre for retail and business.”
The opening of IKEA Chester comes after a landmark year of expansion for IKEA UK. It follows the recent opening of Plan and Order Points in Hull and York, small stores in Harlow and Norwich, and city stores in Brighton and on London’s Oxford Street.

IKEA has also revealed plans to open its first pop-up store in Northern Ireland. Set to open at The Boulevard shopping outlet, the 250sqm pop-up store will open from 13 November 2025.
A “dedicated selection of 150 home furnishing accessories – including kitchen, bedroom, and living room essentials – will be available for immediate takeaway.”
It opened the first and only store in Northern Ireland in Belfast in 2007 near the Belfast City Airport.
In addition to the product offering, customers will have access to free, personalised kitchen and wardrobe planning services as part of the new pop-up.
The site will also host a pick up point enabling customers to collect IKEA online purchases closer to home.
