Family-owned independent furniture retailer Home Sweet Home has announced the closure of its Peterborough store, a year after originally opening.
Situated in the Rivergate Shopping Centre on the junction of Bourges Boulevard and Lower Bridge Street, the business confirmed the closure after deciding against renewing its lease at the property.
Home Sweet Home, which also trades from its store in March and is unaffected by the Peterborough closure, said in a notice that it is actively looking for an alternative site in the area.
“It is with deep regret that we will be closing this store,” the notice said. “But this is not goodbye. We are actively looking for new premises in the Peterborough area and will be back soon. Thank you for your support. We look forward to welcoming you again soon.”
The owner of the business added that the location was unsustainable for a variety of reasons and was on a three month rolling tenancy, ultimately deciding to “bring it to an end”.
“We were excited to open in Peterborough but the city is not as it used to be and it’s no longer a desirable place for us to be. We are looking at opening another store but it will be in the Whittlesey area,” the company added.
