Irish furniture retail sales showed an annual decline in both volume and value during August.
According to the latest Retail Sales Index data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) for August 2025, furniture and lighting sales saw an annual volume decline of 0.5%. On a monthly comparison, sales fell 3.4%.
The value of furniture and lighting retail sales declined 1.8% month-on-month, while falling by 1.6% on an annual basis.
Department stores saw annual volume fall 8.7%, while month-on-month fell 4.3%. As for the value, this fell 1.6% on a monthly basis, as well as down by 7.8% annually.
Overall, the monthly volume of Retail Sales was down by 0.3% in August 2025 and grew by 2.1% in the year when compared with August 2024. The value of Retail Sales fell by 0.3% in the month and rose by 4.9% in the 12 months to August 2025.
The proportion of Retail Sales transacted online (from Irish registered companies) was 5.2% in both August 2025 and July 2025, compared with 4.7% in August 2024.
