Irish furniture retail sales showed an annual decline in both volume and value during May, while on a monthly comparison sales increased.
According to the latest Retail Sales Index data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) for May 2026, furniture and lighting sales saw an annual volume decline by -5.1%. On a monthly comparison, sales were down up 2.1%.
The value of furniture and lighting retail sales increased 2.9% month-on-month, while falling by -5.5% on an annual basis.
Department stores saw annual volume fall -0.3%, while month-on-month fell -0.3%. As for the value, this was flat on a monthly basis, while rising by 2.9% annually.
Overall, the volume of Retail Sales was unchanged in the month and increased by 0.8% in the 12 months to May 2026. The value of Retail Sales for All Businesses rose by 0.7% in the month and increased by 3.0% in the 12 months to May 2026.
