Kitchen furniture firm grows sales in challenging year

Luxury handmade kitchen furniture business Martin Moore has reported a growth in sales as turnover surpassed £10m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 March 2022, total sales rose 28% to £10.4m from £8.2m in 2021. Pre-tax profit resulted at £474,000, slightly down from £485,000 recorded in the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said that it continued to feel the effects of Covid-19 as well as the impact of Brexit, with the biggest impacts on supply chains, leading to increases in costs and extended lead times.

“Where appropriate, new suppliers or materials were sourced and stocks were purchased in advance to ensure that clients’ projects could be fulfilled with limited delays,” the business said. “Fitting costs increased as there was a need to make a return visits to clients because of the extended lead times on certain appliances. These problems have now reduced.”

During the period, Martin Moore, which operates through eight showrooms and online, invested in new machinery to improve efficiencies in production as well as opening up new design techniques.
