Letter from Ireland: IFHS in review

Darren Bastin, Sales Director Ireland & Northern Ireland at RetailSystem, talks about why there is something special in the air at IFHS.

There’s something about the Irish Furniture and Home Show that’s hard to describe unless you’ve been, a mix of energy, innovation, and community spirit that reminds you exactly why this industry is so special.

This year’s show was no exception. In fact, it felt like the best yet.

Held over three bustling days, the halls of the National Indoor Arena were packed with the very best of Irish and international furniture, bedding, and homeware brands.

From contemporary comfort to classic craftsmanship, IFHS 2025 delivered a brilliant cross section of everything our sector has to offer. And judging by the footfall, the appetite for quality retailing is stronger than ever.

The buzz was immediate. From the moment you stepped inside, there was a sense of momentum, a feeling that things are moving forward. You could see it in the beautifully presented stands, hear it in the conversations, and feel it in the way people engaged with each other.

It wasn’t just about buying or selling, it was about possibilities, about what’s next.

For me, the real highlight was the people. It was lovely to reconnect with familiar faces, long standing customers and friends and just as rewarding to meet so many new ones. There’s a certain kind of conversation that only happens in person, where ideas spark and partnerships take root.

That’s the magic of events like IFHS. The energy in those conversations reminded me just how much innovation is driven by people talking, sharing, and learning from one another.

It was also exciting to see how much innovation is happening across the sector, not just in product, but in operations too. More retailers are thinking about how to streamline their systems, strengthen customer experiences, and maximise their time.

I had some fantastic chats about delivery scheduling, order handling, and how technology is quietly reshaping the back end of retailing.

RetailSystem was proud to be part of it all and grateful for the chance to show how our platform continues to help furniture and bedding retailers stay ahead. It didn’t matter if you’re a single site retailer or managing multiple stores & warehouses, it was clear from the conversations we had that the challenges are shared, and so are the opportunities.

From supply chain changes to shifting customer expectations, the retailers I spoke with were thinking proactively, and that’s always a good sign.

To everyone who stopped by our stand, I thank you. And to the organisers and exhibitors who made this year’s show such a success, congratulations.

There was something genuinely uplifting in the air, and it’s a reminder that retail in Ireland is alive, evolving, and ready for whatever comes next.

Roll on IFHS 2026!
