Losses widen and sales slide at hospitality furniture firm

Hospitality industry furniture specialist Burgess Furniture has reported a decline in sales as losses widened.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 December 2024, total sales fell 20.9% to £8.7m from £11m in 2023.

UK sales were down to £4.1m from £5m, while rest of the world sales dipped fell to £4.6m from £6m.

Pre-tax losses resulted at £1.3m, widening from a loss of £568,000 recorded in the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said: “This reflects a challenging trading environment shaped by: Continued geopolitical instability, including the ripple effects of the Red Sea conflict and broader supply chain disruptions.

“Inflationary pressures and elevated interest rates impacting customer budgets and procurement cycles. A competitive labour market, prompting strategic investment in staff retention and development.

“Despite these headwinds, the Group took decisive steps to strengthen its long-term position. Implemented targeted cost controls and operational efficiencies without compromising product quality.”
