MattressNextDay looks to the future

Martin Seeley, CEO at MattressNextDay, highlights a “fantastic” start to 2026, building on its momentum from the previous year where sales, accolades and appointments form the makeup of its strategy.

It was a record-breaking FY25 for beds and mattresses retailer MattressNextDay. Off the back of a strong 2025, where sales increased by 48% year-on-year to £36.8m in the year to 31 March 2025, exceeding forecasts, with net profit up by 20% to £2.6m, the company also saw net assets increase to £8.87m from £6.81m and year-end cash rising to £4.9m, up from £4.55m in 2024.

The company also strengthened its balance sheet during the year, repaying £900,000 of outstanding debt, while also achieving its fourth consecutive record Black Friday, with revenue up 19% year-on-year. The positive momentum has continued into the new financial year too, with early signs so far looking “very encouraging” for the business.

“We’ve had a fantastic start to the year, building on a record-breaking FY25,” Martin says. “We move into 2026 in a very positive position. Continued improvements to our ecommerce website and operational capabilities give us confidence as we pursue our growth plans for the next 12 months.

“Our 2026 strategy is heavily focused on technology and digital performance. We are continuing to invest in our e-commerce platform and operational capabilities. We are also expanding our reach through our Brand Ambassador programme, which launched in June 2025 and involves experts from leading manufacturers like TEMPUR®, Sealy and Silentnight to bridge the gap between retail and expert sleep advice.”

With sleep advice in mind, MattressNextDay has gone one further with the recent appointment of its first external Resident Sleep Expert. Introducing clinical sleep therapist and performance coach Natalie Pennicotte-Collier, she has worked with Premier League footballers, Team GB athletes and Formula 1 teams, as well as delivering sleep solutions within corporate and NHS settings.

Natalie, hailed by The Sunday Times as ‘the UK’s insomnia expert’, is also the female sleep expert for Penguin Books Expert Books and author of the bestselling Sleep Reset: The New Tools of Rest and Recovery.

“Appointing Natalie as our first external sleep expert strengthens our authority and allows us to offer science-backed guidance alongside our product range,” Martin adds. “It’s about helping customers make more confident decisions and improving sleep outcomes overall.”

The partnership officially kicked off during National Bed Month in March through expert-led content and practical sleep advice, while ongoing commentary across key retail campaigns will continue throughout the year.

Commenting on the partnership, Natalie said: “My mission is to make evidence-based sleep tools accessible and stress-free. Partnering with MattressNextDay gives us an opportunity to reach more households and support the nation’s sleep health in a meaningful way.”

The advice will link to customer shifts in shopping too, with Martin seeing a number of changes in consumer behaviour around value, cooling tech and sustainability. “We are seeing a significant shift toward value-driven purchases and cooling technology. Consumers are increasingly looking for mattresses that incorporate “Cool Gel” or breathable natural materials like hemp.

“Additionally, the demand for risk-free shopping is high, which is why our 100-night sleep trial remains a cornerstone of our customer experience. Meanwhile, sustainability is central to our DNA.

“We have now planted over 150,000 trees through our partnership with Ecologi and are on track toward our 2027 goal of offsetting 2,500 tons of carbon. We have also recycled over 85,000 mattresses to date, diverting significant waste from landfills, which really resonates with our customers.”

Another pin of recognition is MattressNextDay’s continued success with awards. With the National Bed Federation (NBF) Bed Show just five months away, the retailer hopes to secure another significant win. “We are incredibly proud to have been named the NBF’s Online Bed Retailer of the Year for the third consecutive year at the 2025 event,” Martin said.

“It’s a testament to our team’s hard work and our ‘customer-first’ technology-led approach. We’re excited for the year ahead and look forward to building on our positive momentum already achieved this year.”
