Sales down at interior fit out firm; outlook positive

Interior fit out and joinery firm EE Smith Contracts has reported a decline in sales and profit.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 March 2025, total sales fell 21.1% to £29.1m from £36.9m in 2024.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £839,000, down from its profit of £2.6m recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said: “This year has been a challenge but one that we have relished. Revenues have again been relatively low, but we are pleased to report that we have remained profitable. That is a testament to our excellent management team and our strong control of our projects and our cost base.

“The lower revenues have been as a result of several of our larger recent project wins failing to get the traction that were expected, together with some notable design challenges that clients and the wider industry have been presenting to us.

“Importantly we deal with these challenges head on and while the year has been one of consolidation, we are incredibly well placed. Our short to medium term outlook is incredibly positive, with our orderbook standing at more than £120 million.

“Our core markets remain strong. We plan to undertake a long term, more sustained and structured approach to our business development. This will ensure that in the years to come, we have a balanced workflow in all of our market sectors.”
