Sales grow again at department store Browns

Independent department store retailer Browns has reported another growth in sales as turnover edged closer to £12m.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 1 February 2025, total sales rose 2.6% to £11.8m from £11.5m in 2024, adding to its growth of 5.5% from £10.9m in 2023.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £180,000, down from £232,000 recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company, which trades from four locations in York, Helmsley, Beverley and Gainsborough, said: “New brand partners have been added to the merchandise mix available to our customers to enhance their product choice. This will help with sales growth going forward.

“As consumer behaviour changes Browns will be well placed to enhance our trading position by understanding consumer demands. The strength of the four locations we operate in gives confidence for the future.”
