Solar panels catch fire at London IKEA store

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA suffered a fire at its Wembley store in London after its solar panels caught alight.

Five fire engines and around 30 firefighters from the London Fire Brigade (LFB) were called to the scene on Drury Way, Wembley, at around 10:35am on 16 October 2025.

Around 250 people were safely evacuated from the store, with no reports of any injuries at this time. The fire was extinguished by 12:44pm.

A statement from LFB said: “Approximately 100 solar panels situated on the roof of a large commercial store were alight. A small part of the roof has also sustained some damage. The fire has now been extinguished but crews remain on scene dampening down.

“The Brigade received the first of 12 calls at 10:35am and Control Officers mobilised crews from Park Royal, Wembley, Willesden and North Kensington fire stations to the scene. A 32-metre turntable also attended and has been used as a water tower to help extinguish the fire from above.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
