Sustainable flooring brand named Global Winner at SBID Design Awards

Sustainable flooring brand Karta has been named a Global Winner at the 2025 SBID International Design Awards, receiving the Product Design: Flooring & Floor Coverings award for its innovative Recycled Leather Series.

The Karta Recycled Leather Series is designed specifically for the commercial and residential interiors market, and has been recognised for its balance between sustainability, aesthetics and cost effectiveness.

Karta, which is part of the Ted Todd group, continues to set industry standards with this sustainable offering. The series is crafted from leather offcuts sourced from the shoe industry and constructed with four additional layers: a cork backing for comfort and durability which also reduces the need for underlay, a wood fibre layer for stability, and a HD print applied directly to the leather layer. Each board is finished with Karta’s water-resistant barrier solution, Karta Plated®, creating an AC5-rated, super matte performance coat.

Using biodegradable inks, photo-realistic designs replicate genuine Ted Todd and Woodworks floors, including HD scans of rare, reclaimed timbers, such as flooring from Winston Churchill’s Old War Office. All Karta floors are based on genuine wood, offering an accessible and sustainable alternative with no design repeats across 20 boards, ensuring a natural, authentic look and varied character between planks.

The series features a click-system installation and is available in 18 serviceable colours, including Kozler, Colton, Shumate, and Shepherd, sourced from historic reclaimed timbers. Planks measure 1850mm x 200mm x 9mm, and with no underlay or adhesive required, installation is quick, easy, and cost-effective.

Ted Todd Founder, Robert Walsh, commented on the win: “We’re incredibly proud that the Karta Recycled Leather Series has received such a prestigious award. This accolade reinforces our commitment to combining sustainability with design excellence. Karta was created to deliver the look and feel of authentic wood flooring, in a format that is more accessible.

“What makes it truly special is the link to history provided by Ted Todd and Woodworks. Many of our designs are based on HD scans of rare and historic reclaimed timbers, connecting modern interiors with stories from the past. To have this recognised by SBID is a significant milestone for the brand and our ongoing innovation in this space.”
