Comfort Number® to launch new mattress test station

Comfort Number® has announced its participation as a guest exhibitor at this year’s NBF Bed Show, where the brand will unveil its New Mattress Test Station – a fresh approach to personalised mattress matching powered by AI.

At a time when the industry is under pressure to deliver cleaner, safer, and more sustainable solutions, Comfort Number® is committed to helping retailers provide accurate, personalised recommendations that support long‑term comfort rather than short‑term sales.

“The UK bed industry is facing a defining moment,” the company said. “Store closures are accelerating, footfall is tightening, and traditional retail models are under pressure. The reason is clear: too many stores fail to deliver a compelling in‑store experience.

“Shoppers walk in, see rows of mattresses that look identical, receive generic advice, and leave no more confident than when they arrived. In a world where online retail offers convenience, speed, and endless comparison, physical stores must offer something the internet cannot – a hands‑on, personalised experience that transforms browsing into buying. Comfort Number® delivers exactly that.”

The Comfort Number® Test Station is an AI‑powered, floor‑standing touchscreen kiosk paired with an intelligent test mattress. When customers lie down, pressure‑sensing technology analyses their body profile in real time.

This data is combined with a short set of questions covering sleep preferences, comfort issues, and problem areas. Within minutes, the system generates a personalised Comfort Number® and recommends specific mattresses from the retailer’s own range on screen and printed automatically.

“The experience is guided by voice prompts and live AI responses, making it feel intuitive, human, and personal rather than mechanical,” the company added. “Customers engage with it unprompted. Instead of starting with a sales pitch, staff begin with insight — sleep position, pressure points, comfort preference – before they say a word. The customer feels understood rather than sold to. This is the in‑store experience shoppers have been missing.

“With as many as six out of ten people sleeping on the wrong mattress, and most struggle to articulate what they need beyond “firm” or “soft”. Comfort Number® removes that guesswork. When customers feel confident, they buy decisively — and retailers see the impact, with shoppers typically choosing higher‑value products and generating fewer comfort‑related returns.

“Crucially, Comfort Number® recommendations are tied directly to the retailer’s own product range, not generic firmness ratings. That means the result belongs to the showroom. A customer cannot price‑check their Comfort Number® online. It is redeemable only with the retailer who provided the experience – a powerful defence against online competition.

“As the industry faces rising pressure, Comfort Number® offers retailers a way forward: a differentiated, technology‑driven experience that gives customers clarity, confidence, and a reason to choose bricks‑and‑mortar over online.”

Comfort Number® invites retailers to experience the Test Station first‑hand at Stand E40 at the NBF Show.
