Creditors of 50 furnishing businesses owed over £80m

In the latest Insolvency Digest, creditors of 50 furnishing businesses entering liquidation or administration are expected to suffer a combined shortfall of £82m.

Zane Collins, of Rushtons Insolvency Limited, was appointed as administrator of furniture wholesaler Scan-Thors (U.K.) Limited on 23 April 2026. Preferential employee claims of £28,000 are expected to be repaid in full, while the HMRC, owed £448,000, is expected to suffer a shortfall of £163,000. Unsecured creditors are owed a combined total of £621,000, which includes a further £335,000 owed to staff. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £785,000.

Lee De’ath and Tom Gardiner, both of BTG Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, were appointed as joint administrators of furniture retailer Barretts of Woodbridge Limited on 7 May 2026. Preferential employee claims of £4,255 are expected to be repaid in full, while the HMRC, owed £63,000, is expected to suffer a shortfall of £22,000. Unsecured creditors are owed a combined total of £217,000, which include a number of four-figure sums owed to the trade. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £245,000.

Ross David Connock and Edward Williams, both of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, were appointed as joint administrators of mattresses and other furniture manufacturer Airsprung Furniture Limited on 1 May 2026. Preferential creditor employee claims are owed £255,000, while the HMRC is owed £1.4m, which are expected to be repaid from realised assets valuing £3.4m. Unsecured creditors are owed £44.2m, which includes £22.7m owed to a pension scheme and £18.3m owed as intercompany debt. The trade is owned £1.7m, while employees are owed a further £3.1m. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £48.6m. Furthermore, creditors of its parent company Airsprung Group are expected to suffer a shortfall of £35.7m, which includes £10.2m owed as intercompany debt and the same amount owed to the pension scheme as detailed above. A combined shortfall of both companies totals £61.6m. This includes one count of the pension deficit due to both companies being responsible for the same debt.

Frazer Ulrick, of Westgates Restructuring Limited, was appointed as liquidator of furniture manufacturer Claughton Furniture Limited on 21 May 2026. Preferential creditor employee claims are owed £29,000, which are expected to be repaid from realised assets valuing £69,000. Unsecured creditors are owed £1.5m, which includes a further £159,000 owed to employees. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £1.4m.

Kevin Weir, of Hudson Weir Ltd, was appointed as liquidator of furniture manufacturer Proline Exhibition & Interior Limited, trading as Proline Interiors, on 29 May 2026. Preferential creditor employee claims are owed £7,000, which are expected to be repaid from realised assets valuing £15,000. The HMRC is owed £69,000, while unsecured creditors are owed £210,000, which includes a further £50,000 owed to employees and a £32,000 bounce back loan. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £274,000.

Chris Parkman, of Purnells, was appointed as liquidator of furniture retailer Dutch Living Limited on 3 June 2026. Preferential creditor, the HMRC is owed £32,000. Unsecured creditors are owed £90,000. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £118,000.

Peter Harold, of Bespoke Insolvency Solutions, was appointed as liquidator of furniture retailer Wigan Furniture Clearance Outlet Ltd on 29 May 2026. Preferential creditor, the HMRC is owed £220,000. Unsecured creditors are owed £132,000, which includes £100,000 owed to directors. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £352,000.

Jonathan Beard and Gavin Savage, both of BTG Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture manufacturer Dalbergia Ltd on 28 May 2026. Preferential creditor employee claims are owed £17,000, while the HMRC is owed £158,000. Unsecured creditors are owed £376,000, which includes a further £187,000 owed to employees and £114,000 to the HMRC. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £538,000.

Grace Jones and David Perkins, both of Parker Andrews Limited, were appointed as joint liquidators of furniture manufacturer London Reclaimed, trading as Goldfinch, on 2 June 2026. Preferential creditor employee claims are owed £16,000, while the HMRC is owed £348,000. Unsecured creditors are owed £493,000, which includes £268,000 owed to consumers. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £858,000.

Bethan Evans and John Cullen, both of Menzies LLP, were appointed as joint liquidators of soft furnishings manufacturer Mattervalue Limited, trading as All Sewn Up, on 2 June 2026. Preferential creditor employee claims are owed £10,000, while the HMRC is owed £17,000. Unsecured creditors are owed £238,000, which includes a further £143,000 owed to employees. It is expected that creditors will suffer a shortfall of £218,000.
