Homeware high street sales down double-digit

Homeware sales on the high street fell again as overall sales slightly increased.

According to the latest BDO High Street Sales Tracker, total like-for-like (LFL) sales rose +0.08% for the week ending 26 July 2026.

Homewares total LFLs decreased by -15.55% (adjusted) this week, from a positive base of +11.47% for the same week last year.

Store homewares sales fell by -13.40% this week, compared to +12.48% for the same week last year. Non-store homewares sales fell by -27.50% this week, compared to +2.23% for the same week last year.

Total store LFL sales have grown for four consecutive weeks and edged up by +0.09% this week, compared to a negative base of -1.27% for the same week last year. Total non-store LFL sales saw an end to five weeks of growth and decreased by -0.07% this week, compared to a negative base of -3.09% for the same week last year.

Commenting on the results, BDO said: “The week marked a transition from the prolonged hot and dry conditions that had dominated most of July to a more mixed pattern.

“Southern England and Wales remained mostly dry, with temperatures often above average, and parts of Wales officially declared to be in drought. Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Northern England saw more cloud and some showers.”

Springboard data showed overall footfall increased by +0.2% this week, driven by retail parks footfall which increased by +2.4%, while high street footfall fell by -0.6%, and shopping centre footfall fell by -0.5%.
